Get to Know Nancy

At Heart to Heart Therapy, we decided to ask each other a few “get to know you” questions to help our current and future clients familiarize themselves with our personalities both in and outside of the therapy office! Enjoy learning more about Nancy!

1. What inspired you to be a therapist?

Initially, my desire to learn how to be of better support for my family and friends.  Later this grew into wanting to better understand people, their pain, their resilience and helping to make meaning of their emotional world. I truly had no idea where the educational experience would lead to and feel so fortunate for the varied opportunities to support people through healing and growth in my 25 year career.

2. What do you love most about being a therapist?

The authentic and vulnerable process of sharing in one's experience and all that goes with it, the exchange of thoughts, beliefs and feelings. Along with making time and space for what I hope is a transformational experience.

3. What do you find challenging about this career?

The work is hard and often slow. There are no quick fixes despite the intensity of the pain and sometimes no solutions but finding a new normal, as in the case of loss of a loved one.

4. What adjectives would you use to describe yourself as a therapist?

I would like to think caring, skilled, empathic, non judgemental and at times a direct therapist.

5. What is something you wish people better understood or knew about the process of therapy?

It is a collaborative process which requires work outside of the therapy appointment to increase the effectiveness of the process.  The work requires consistent and repetitive practice of the tools.

6. Do you have a hobby?

I enjoy being with my family, especially my sweet grandbabies ! Playing golf with friends and traveling.

7. If you were not a therapist, what career would you have?

First and foremost I always wanted to be a mom and this remains the most important role in my life.

But, if I hadn’t become a therapist I would have liked to be a singer, if I only I had the voice for it !
